Back to the reviews! I’ve seen a lot within the past year, and thankfully many that might be up for Academy Award nominations. I plan on trying to watch the rest that are up, so I can give an honest appraisal of which is the best in my opinion. Just to be fair, I’m gonna try really hard not to be biased with this movie, but I will say off the bat it is my favorite of the year so far.
What can I say about American Hustle that hasn’t already been said? It’s a great story, shot well, and terrifically acted by some of the best in the business these days. Jennifer Lawrence does a fantastic job playing an annoying, selfish, young, New Jersey housewife. Amy Adams is even better in some aspects. Christian Bale does a great job playing an overweight, balding, con man with a small amount of care and morality towards people he knows are decent. Bradley Cooper is phenomenal as a smarmy, piece of garbage FBI agent, trying to find fame and be number 1. Last but not least, Jeremy Renner plays his role so well, I forgot he was the same guy in the Hansel and Gretel as well as Hawkeye in the Avengers movie.
The movie is fun. It feels like a Scorsese film, without being one. You get the feeling of the 1970’s with the looks, the music, and everything in it. It has some good comedy without being a comedy film, and I wanted more at the end when it was all over. I laughed at Louis C.K.’s performance as well. I can’t say enough about how great this movie was, you must go and see it.
For those needing the background on this movie, it is loosely based off the story of the ABSCAM operation done by the FBI in the late 1970’s that targeted corrupt officials. The FBI hired a con artist (Bale) to plan and conduct the operation and in the real story ended up the targeting of 31 officials that included House of Representative members and US senators. The movie obviously elaborates some of the details saying directly in the beginning of the move “Some of these things actually happened”. It was such a good story that was conveyed on screen that it makes me want to seek out more about what actually happened, if nothing else, than to understand more.
To sum things up: Go watch American Hustle. If you have been holding out for some reason or another, change that mind and go see it. Up next will be the Wolf of Wall Street, or Her, both movies that have been getting great accolades, and both which I am curious to actually see. I did watch 47 Ronin as well within the last couple of weeks, so be on the lookout for that one too.
Also the AndroidVirus and Sean Show will be making its triumphant return to the internets very soon, so be on the lookout for updates on new episodes as soon as we get details!
